How to resolve Sprinto check for monitoring Lightsail instance CPU utilization
About
Sprinto Check: AWS Lightsail instance CPU utilization should be monitored
Upon integrating your AWS account with Sprinto, the platform fetches the list of services from your AWS account. If you are using AWS Lightsail and have not created a monitoring alert for the metric CPUUtilization, Sprinto activates the check mentioned above for all Lightsail instances under your account.
Note: At this time, our platform does not support AWS CloudWatch Composite Alarms or Math-Based Alarms.
This means you cannot create alarms that:
Combine multiple alarms using logical conditions (e.g., ALARM1 AND ALARM2
)
Use metric math expressions (e.g., calculating averages or deltas across metrics)
Purpose
Monitoring CPU utilization in your AWS Lightsail environment, specifically the CPUUtilization metric is crucial to ensure optimal performance and resource allocation. Sprinto sends notifications if the CPU utilization surpasses the defined threshold, allowing you to take proactive measures to maintain optimal performance.
How to Resolve
To address this check, follow the steps below to create an AWS CloudWatch alert for monitoring AWS Lightsail instance CPU utilization.
Before you Begin
Ensure you have "Admin" access to the AWS account to create alerts.
Ensure you have Lightsail instances created on your AWS account for which you will create the alert.
Log in to Sprinto as an administrator.
Create Monitoring Alert
Log in to your AWS Lightsail console using your credentials.
Navigate to the Lightsail instance that you want to monitor.
In the instance details, go to the Monitoring tab.
Click Add another alarm to create a new CloudWatch alarm.
Choose the Create a new CloudWatch alarm option.
In the Create Alarm wizard, configure the following:
Select metric: Choose the Per-Instance Metrics tab and select the metric CPUUtilization.
Conditions: Specify the conditions to define the alert trigger point.
Actions: Configure the action to be taken when the alarm state is triggered.
Create new topic: Enter the topic name and email address for alert notifications.
Add notification: Select the created SNS topic and click Add notification.
Name and description: Enter a name and description for the created alert.
Click Create alarm to finalize the alert configuration.
Once the monitoring alert is created on CloudWatch for Lightsail instance CPU utilization, Sprinto retrieves the changes, and the Sprinto check status is set to "Passing."
