Oracle Cloud provides a robust suite of services for managing your infrastructure and applications. Monitoring the CPU utilization of your Oracle Cloud resources is essential for optimizing performance, identifying potential issues, and ensuring efficient resource utilization.

Purpose

The purpose of resource monitoring for CPU utilization in Oracle Cloud is to monitor and alert on the percentage of CPU usage actively. This monitoring helps you:

1. Optimize Performance: Monitor CPU utilization to ensure your resources operate within acceptable performance levels, enhancing the responsiveness of your applications and services.

2. Resource Management: Proactively identify and address issues related to high CPU usage, ensuring efficient utilization of your cloud resources and cost-effectiveness.

3. Performance Bottleneck Detection: Receive alerts if the CPU utilization deviates from expected values, allowing you to detect and address potential performance bottlenecks before they impact your applications or services.

Monitoring CPU utilization provides insights into the health and efficiency of your Oracle Cloud resources, enabling timely optimizations and proactive management.

How to resolve

Follow the below steps to create an resource monitoring alert on the Autonomous Transaction Processing (ATP):

Before you begin

• Ensure you have “Admin “ access on the Oracle Cloud you wish to create alert.

• Ensure you have the ATP configured to create the alert.

Create monitoring alert

1. Log in on Oracle Cloud using your credentials.

2. From the Oracle Dashboard, select the ATP database from the Resource Explorer.

   
3. Now, select the ATP database in which you wish to create the metric monitoring alert.

   
4. Scroll down to Metrics section, and select Create an alarm on this query for the CPU Utilization metric.

   
5. Enter the Alarm Name and Body to describe the alert briefly.

   
6. Ensure the following metric description is selected.

   • Metric namespace: oci_autonomous_database

   • Metric name: CPUUtilization

     
7. Set the alert trigger value as per your requirement.

   
8. Define your alarm notifications. You can select a topic from the drop-down menu to define the users receiving the alarm notification. If required, you can create a new topic.

   
9. Review your selections, and click Save alarm.

   

Once the alert is created, Sprinto retrieves the change from your integrated Oracle Cloud account on Sprinto and sets the assigned check status to "Passing."
