Encrypt Storage on Windows Devices

To maintain compliance and uphold security standards, individuals accessing an organization's Version Control Software or Cloud Infrastructure must ensure that their device's disk remains encrypted. Disk encryption plays a pivotal role in protecting the data on your Windows device, ensuring that only authorized individuals can access it.

Why Encryption Matters

Encryption safeguards your device's data by converting it into ciphertext, making it accessible only to those with the proper authorization. If your device lacks native encryption, you may have the option to activate standard BitLocker encryption.

Please note that the following steps are applicable for Windows Professional devices. If you use a Windows Home device, kindly request an upgrade to the Professional version from your management.

Turn on Device Encryption

  1. Sign in to Windows with an administrator account (you may need to sign out and log in to switch accounts).

  2. Select the Start button, then navigate Settings > Update & Security > Device Encryption. If Device encryption is not visible, consider using standard BitLocker encryption as an alternative.

  3. If device encryption is turned off, select Turn on.
